Dior Les Violets Hypnotiques swatches and review

"From the iconic lilac worn by the couturier’s muse Mitzah Bricard to the deepest aubergine shade adorning the legendary bottle of the Poison fragrance, purple comes in endless shapes and forms in the Dior world. Floral, it is a fashion echo of the mysterious beauty of the iris and clematis."

With this exclusive collection, the House of Dior offers a trio of hypnotic, elegant and captivating purples :
The deep, enchanting purple of Poison (Dior Vernis No. 996)
The sensual, luminous aubergine shade of Orchid (Dior Vernis No. 981)
Its intense, shimmering version: Shadow (Dior Vernis No. 783)

Poison is a profound "faux-creme" eggplant purple. Smooth and velvety, it's not so dark that it looks black and dries to a gorgeous vampy shade. Formula and opacity did not disappoint, barely requiring a second coat.

Orchid is a dark raisin purple with the Dior sparse silver signature shimmer. Completely different from Poison formula wise, it has some jelly caracteristics and a super glossy finish. I used 2 coats in these swatches but you might need a third one to avoid bald spots.

Shadow is the gem of the collection. I knew it would be my favorite the second I saw the first promo pics and I instantly loved it once in my hands. Glistening mix of red, purple and gold shimmers in a faded warm purple, the contrast between the intense sparkle and the greyed out base makes it so desirable. Perfect formula, 2 coats for perfect coverage.

Shadow is almost identical to Dior Licorice when it comes to shimmer, only its base color and dustiness differ, here's a quick comp :
Dior Shadow on the left
Dior Licorice on the right

Dior Shadow on index and ring fingers
Dior Licorice on middle finger

Overall :
I'm not really drawn to this purples like Orchid but Poison and Shadow, I couldn't have passed!
Shadow, probably the next hit shade.

Les Violets Hypnotiques are already available at the avenue Montaigne boutique in Paris as well as selected boutiques and on Dior.com in France  (February 21th in Sephora France).

  4. The description of Orchid sounds like what three coats of China Glaze Velvet Bow looks like on my nails.
