Contrary Polish Love Lyrics Spring 2013 collection review

The world of indies is a paradise for glitter lovers but if you're into shimmers and always on the look out for original unexpected combinations, Contrary Polish is the brand to look into.

Today I have the Spring collection to share with you : 6 beautiful and soft shades with lovely sparkles!

Somebody Loved is a delicate nude pink-lavender with a gold and multicolored shimmer. The shimmer is subtle but still adds a really nice glow to the beautiful base color. 2 coats plus topcoat here.

Play Me is a dusty purple with a strong green sparkling shimmer. It's a little warmer than my pictures show but this is the closest I could get, it's really gorgeous though! 2 coats plus topcoat here.

Feels Like Home is a pinkish taupe with pink shimmer / microglitter. I really love this shade, it's soft and delicate but still dark and edgy : perfection! This is 2 coats plus topcoat.

Ain’t no Sunshine is a greyed out blue with a subtle shimmer and small silver flecks. It reminds me a little bit of Illamasqua Raindrops minus the opacity problems. I received this bottle before Carrie had a chance to reformulate it so the shimmer ratio in the bottle you will receive should be higher. This is 2 coats plus topcoat.

Better Together is the darkest polish of the collection and amazing grey with a strong blue hue and a turquoise sparkling shimmer. I used 2 coats plus topcoat here.

The Way I Am is a muted green, almost military with a mix fuschia shimmer / microglitter. Totally unexpected but really beautiful, it's a nice twist on the usual military greens. 2 coats plus topcoat here also.

Formula on this collection was really nice and consistent : rather sheer but even on the first coat, they all looked perfectly opaque and applied effortlessly on the second.
I really have a soft spot for Contrary Polish and I can only recommend them!

Contrary Polish can be purchased from llarowe.com and retails for $11 each (full size). A few shades are also available in mini size directly from Contrary Polish.

  1. Wow! The Way I Am is *stunning*!! To be honest, when I saw the shades on the Contrary blog they looked really similar and I couldn't tell the difference between some of them. I'll have to place another Contrary order soon! :)

  15. Over the weekend, I ordered minis of Better Together, Play Me and Feels Like Home...I can't wait! These colors are beyond gorgeous. What Carrie can do with shimmers is pretty special. The shimmer in Feels Like Home especially excites me - it looks like the polish is glowing from within. And I think it's very creative to pair purple with green shimmer, and achieve a look that is beautiful and elegant (the pairing could quickly veer into Hulk or Barney territory). And your swatches make me really crave Somebody Loved now. =) Thanks for the wonderful pics!

  19. is it the angle of the lighting, or are those bald spots near the cuticles in your swatches of somebody loved? :S

    1. It must be the angle combined with the lighting reflection... I didn't have bald spots IRL or I would definitely have applied a third coat LOL

  21. Now that I think about it, I want to ask how close "Play Me" is to RBL's "Insouciant" - ? Insouciant has been a lemming of mine for awhile now, but if Play Me is a close substitute, this may have just saved my wallet some grief!! =)

    1. Hi! Their base colors are pretty close but the shimmers are very different : green in Play with and purple, almost blue in Insouciant. I'm afraid they are no dupes... xx

    2. Ah, oh well - more polish I'll just have to buy then! =/ Thanks for the comparison!

  22. Hi! How do the shade of blue-grey compare between "Ain't No Sunshine" & Cirque's "Cape Liz"? I can tell from your photos that the glitters/shimmers seem quite different, but I'm wondering how the base colors compare.

    3. No worries! So I finally dug out my bottle of Cape Liz and although the shimmers are completely different, the base colors are surprisingly similar! Cape Liz is just a tad lighter but it's very subtle. I hope this helps! xx

  24. Thanks for doing that! I thought they might be pretty similar. :)
